Ambassador for Safety Awards

A local business, community group and an individual were recognized at an awards presentation on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 as Ambassadors for Safety.

Canadian Tire Lindsay was recognized for their support of the Wear the Gear program. For two years running Canadian Tire has worked cooperatiely with Safe Communities Kawarth Lakes to ensure a supply of bike helmets were distributed through bike rodeos and helmet fitting clinics.

The United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes was recognized for taking the lead on securing Ontario Trillium Foundation funding to hire a Safe Communities Coordinator and providing office space for the coordinator.

Marjorie Oke was recognized for her volunteer efforts with the Wear the Gear program. Marjorie championed the "Wear the Gear" program and selflessly volunteered her time to attend events and conduct helmet fitting clinics. Marjorie was also recognized as the 2011 National Ambassador for Safety Volunteer Award.
